Which Pokemon Cards Are Worth Money?

Found a shoebox of old cards? Here's how to tell in minutes which ones are worth real money — and a live list of what's valuable right now.

The 5-Point Check: Is This Card Worth Money?

1

Rarity symbol

Look at the bottom of the card: a circle means common, a diamond uncommon, a star rare. Stars, especially with extra letters (ex, GX, V, VMAX) or gold/rainbow finishes, are where the money is.

2

Holo pattern

If the artwork (or the whole card) shines, it's a holo or reverse holo — holos are consistently worth more than the same card without foil.

3

Collector number

Check the fraction at the bottom (e.g. 215/203). A number HIGHER than the printed total marks a secret rare — these are disproportionately valuable.

4

1st Edition & Shadowless marks

On 1999-2000 vintage cards, a '1st Edition' stamp left of the art, or a missing drop shadow next to the art box, multiplies value several times.

5

Condition

Sharp corners, clean surface, no whitening — near-mint cards command the full market price; played copies sell at a discount.
