What Makes These Cards So Expensive?
Scarcity
Tournament prizes, promotional cards and low-print-run sets create extreme rarity; some cards have fewer than 100 copies worldwide.
Condition
Graded gem-mint copies are exponentially more valuable: a PSA 10 can be worth 10-100× the same card in played condition.
Historical Significance
First editions, early Japanese promos and cards from Pokemon's origins (1996-1999) command the highest premiums.
Market Demand
Nostalgia from collectors who grew up with the game, plus celebrity attention, keeps chase-card demand high.
